It is with bittersweet emotions that His Love’s board of directors announces Ruth Ressler has decided to retire soon from her role as Executive Director.
We are so grateful for Ruth’s passion, commitment, and talents as she has served in that role since our founding over 13 years ago. We all will miss her wonderful personal presence in a day-to-day role with our clients, staff, and volunteers. At the same time, we take great comfort that Ruth has agreed to continue to be involved in the leadership and ministry of His Love!
Ruth is planning to retire within the first five months of 2018, once a new Executive Director is chosen. However, after much prayer and discussion, the board of directors unanimously decided to ask Ruth to join the board upon her retirement and become the new President and Board Chair at that time. We are grateful that she prayerfully accepted this invitation, with an initial commitment of one year in that role to help ensure a smooth transition to our new Executive Director, after which there will be discernment for the future.
“I think I speak for all of His Love’s long-time supporters not only in feeling thankful for Ruth’s many years of loving service,” said Jesse Lahey, current President and Board Chair. “We also feel confident that, with God’s help and the benefit of Ruth’s ongoing involvement, our ministry will continue to serve our community well and stay true to our mission. Her leadership on the board will provide stability and continuity for the ministry, as well as a helpful mentor available as needed for our new Executive Director and other staff and volunteers.”
For the last several years, Ruth had kept the board informed that she was praying about when God would have her pass the baton of leadership of His Love to someone else. In addition to seeking the Lord’s guidance for Ruth, this provided the board with time to prepare a succession plan and to ensure the ministry is in a healthy and stable condition for the transition.
Ruth was part of the original founding group that envisioned the ministry of His Love Family Resources to help create a caring community in which every life is valued and nurtured, so that every family will experience wholeness through the love of Christ. Every year since our founding, Ruth has devoted many hundreds of hours of volunteer service to our ministry, touching lives and sharing God’s love in her quiet but powerful way.
“Family well-being and relationships have been my passion for most of my life,” said Ruth, “and I have loved being in the middle of trying to make a difference in the lives of families. I feel so blessed to have been a part of this ministry from the beginning.”
We thank Ruth for her willingness to serve, as well as her husband Paul and their three daughters for their tremendous support over the years. We look forward to seeing how God will use His Love in this next phase of our ministry!
